Arsenal have enjoyed a busy summer as Mikel Arteta continues reshaping his squad ahead of another demanding campaign.
The Gunners strengthened midfield by signing Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United in a £75 million deal.
Arteta also reinforced his defence with Ezri Konsa and completed Piero Hincapie’s permanent £34 million transfer.
Christos Tzolis arrived from Club Brugge, while goalkeeper Illan Meslier joined Arsenal on a free transfer.
Several players have also departed, including Leandro Trossard, Jakub Kiwior and Christian Norgaard.
Arsenal nevertheless started their Premier League title defence strongly with a convincing 3-0 victory over newly promoted Coventry City.
Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard scored as Arteta’s side collected three points at the Emirates Stadium.
However, Arsenal could now face another transfer decision involving one of Arteta’s highly rated defensive options.
According to CaughtOffside, Fenerbahce have developed strong interest in Arsenal defender Cristhian Mosquera and are preparing an approach.
The 22-year-old joined Arsenal from Valencia for £13 million last summer and has since increased his value significantly.
Mosquera is now worth around £30 million to £35 million after his progress in North London. He does not get an automatic starting place, but Arteta reportedly rates the Spain international very highly.
The defender started Arsenal’s Community Shield victory over Manchester City and their league win against Coventry City.
William Saliba’s injury could also provide Mosquera with more opportunities during the opening months of the new campaign.
Arsenal recently added Konsa at centre-back, but Saliba could remain unavailable for months rather than weeks.
That situation strengthens Arsenal’s desire to maintain enough defensive depth and avoid unnecessary risks this season.
Fenerbahce intend to make a strong push and hope to convince Mosquera with an important role in their project.
Al-Hilal and Al-Nassr are also monitoring his situation and are preparing their own approaches before the transfer deadline.
However, Arteta will have the final decision and currently prefers to keep Mosquera at Arsenal.
