Some signings happen in the spotlight.
Record fees, followed up by press conferences.
And some, the ones that can make just as big an impact, happen in the background.
Away from the cameras.
Without the fanfare.
The arrival of the right person in the right role can change an entire squad’s trajectory.
And Arsenal appear to be about to make exactly that kind of signing.
Eneko Angulo writes emotional Real Betis farewell as Arsenal close in
According to the London Evening Standard, Arsenal are closing in on the appointment of Eneko Angulo, Real Betis’ highly-regarded rehabilitation coach, with the Spaniard having already written an emotional farewell letter to the club, strongly suggesting the move is imminent.
His parting words told the story clearly.
“A chapter ends and a new adventure begins,” Angulo wrote. “I love you, Betis.”
Sources pointing to Arsenal as that destination have emerged across multiple Spanish outlets following the letter’s publication.
However, the significance of a move like this cannot be overstated.
Mikel Arteta has always placed enormous importance on the technical staff operating beneath the headline names.
His attention to the fine details of player development has been a hallmark of the culture he has built at the Emirates since his appointment in 2019.
Angulo brings exactly the kind of expertise that supports those outcomes.
His work at Real Betis in the field of readaptation has earned him a strong reputation in Spanish football.
Bringing that expertise to north London makes sense from every angle.
Yet, Arsenal carry a squad that demands elite physical management.
Players like Saliba, Gabriel Magalhães and Declan Rice are central to everything the club does.
And keeping them available, fresh and performing at their peak across a season that now includes Champions League football, the Premier League title defence and domestic cups is a technical challenge of the highest order.
However, the farewell letter has been written.
The adventure, as Angulo put it, is beginning.
And for Arsenal’s squad, the arrival of the right person in the right role could pay dividends long before a ball is kicked next season.
