Arsenal agree £17m deal to sell Leandro Trossard to Besiktas
According to The Athletic, Arsenal have reached a club-to-club agreement with Besiktas for Trossard’s transfer, with the deal worth an initial €18 million rising to €20 million with add-ons, and personal terms currently in the process of being finalised between the player and the Turkish club.
The transfer is not yet complete.
But the hardest part, convincing Arsenal to sell, is done.
The timing makes complete sense from Mikel Arteta’s perspective.
Trossard has one year remaining on his contract.
This summer is the last realistic opportunity to generate a meaningful fee.
And with Arsenal pursuing a marquee left-wing signing, Bradley Barcola and Morgan Rogers both firmly in the picture, clearing both the wage bill and the squad space was essential.
A net salary worth up to €9 million per season awaits Trossard in Istanbul.
The completion of the deal is expected to be delayed until Belgium’s World Cup campaign concludes.
With Trossard starring for Rudi Garcia’s side in North America, starting all four group games and contributing four goal involvements in the process.
He faces the USA in the round of sixteen on Monday.
Once that chapter ends, his next begins.
For Arsenal, the farewell will be warm.
Trossard arrived in January 2023 from Brighton for £23 million, a signing that looked shrewd at the time and proved transformative over the seasons that followed.
He delivered in the Premier League, in Europe and on the biggest nights.
He leaves as a champion.
And with the funds generated from his sale, Arsenal now have a clearer path to landing whoever comes next.
