Aston Villa face a crucial decision over two of their biggest stars as the summer transfer window enters its final weeks.
Emiliano Martinez and Ezri Konsa have both attracted serious interest, with Villa weighing up which player they are prepared to lose before the deadline.
Martinez enjoyed another outstanding campaign during the 2025-26 season. The Argentina international helped Villa win the UEFA Europa League.
He then carried that form into the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Martinez started every match for Argentina and was one of the tournament’s standout goalkeepers.
He made 20 saves overall and produced a remarkable 11-save display in the final, although Argentina ultimately lost 1-0 to Spain after extra time.
His performances have kept him firmly in the spotlight this summer. According to Football Insider, Aston Villa are prepared to sanction Martinez’s departure if it allows them to keep hold of Konsa.
Arsenal continue to pursue Konsa after making contact over a potential transfer. However, Villa would rather retain the England defender and instead approve a sale for Martinez.
Saudi Pro League clubs can be the most likely destination for the 33-year-old goalkeeper. Villa could also hold talks with Saudi clubs regarding Leon Bailey, who could leave alongside Martinez.
The Midlands club have already overseen several major departures this summer, including Morgan Rogers’ move to Chelsea and Youri Tielemans’ transfer to Manchester United.
Villa are also preparing for life without their long-serving number one. Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki remains on the club’s shortlist after impressing for Japan at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Unai Emery’s side are under no immediate pressure to sell Martinez. But they appear willing to make that sacrifice if it prevents Konsa from leaving Villa Park.
