Last year, when the season started, Erik ten Hag was the manager of Manchester United. The Red Devils were the reigning FA Cup winners.
That is how they qualified for the Europa League. United finished in the 8th place in the Premier League table behind Newcastle United in the 2023/24 season.
In the 2024/25 season, INEOS under Sir Jim Ratcliffe took charge of football operations at Manchester United.
There were rumours that Erik ten Hag might get sacked as the manager. However, initially, they backed the Dutchman due to his FA Cup success.
However, United started the season off badly. And, because of that, INEOS decided to sack Erik ten Hag and bring in Ruben Amorim as his replacement.
Under Amorim, United’s struggle continued as they kept dropping points and eventually finished 15th in the Premier League table.
One of the main reasons why Manchester United struggled was the lack of goals. Both Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee failed to convert many chances created by Bruno Fernandes.
Erik ten Hag signed both of these players. Now, Ruben Amorim is looking to change the squad significantly.
Erik ten Hag has now joined Bayer Leverkusen after Xabi Alonso decided to join Real Madrid after Carlo Ancelotti left the club.
After joining Leverkusen, Erik ten Hag has lost some of the key players who played a key part in Xabi Alonso’s Bundesliga-winning team.
Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpog, and Granit Xhaka all left the club. That is why Erik ten Hag is looking for reinforcements.
According to CaughtOffside, Erik ten Hag has now requested Bayer Leverkusen to sign Rasmus Hojlund from Manchester United.
The Danish star joined United from Atalanta when they were under the Dutch manager. Now, he wants to reunite with the striker he signed for the Red Devils.
Hojlund is also linked with Inter Milan and RB Leipzig. The striker wants to stay at Manchester United. The next few weeks will decide where Rasmus Hojlund plays next season.
