Bayern Munich are back on top in the Bundesliga.
After a year absence, Bayern secured a German title once again.
This now marks their 12th in the past 13 seasons.
However, they once again disappointed in Europe.
In the 2023/24 season, they reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League and were on course to reaching the final at Wembley.
A late show from Joselu and Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium broke Munich hearts.
With the following season’s final at their own ground, hopes were high of a final once again on their own stomping ground.
A 4-3 aggregate loss to eventual finalists Inter Milan in the quarter-final denied that possibility.
With six European Cups/Champions Leagues, Bayern are European royalty.
It feels like Bayern should have won more over the past 10 to 15 years with the players that they have had.
In that period, they have won two Champions Leagues in 2013 and 2020, although the latter feels hollow with the format changed to one legged affairs in a neutral site in the quarters and semi-finals.
Bayern always deem European success the pinnacle of their season.
Another poor showing in the tournament may ramp up pressure on manager Vincent Kompany.
Bayern will be looking for reinforcements this summer to make that happen.
They are looking for a new attacker after the departure of Leroy Sané to Galatasaray and Thomas Müller.
Bayern will be keen to add a player in the position after missing out on Florian Wirtz and Nico Williams, who looks set to join Barcelona.
The Premier League is where Bayern might be looking towards next.
Bayern Munich make enquiry about Arsenal star
According to reports, Bayern have made an enquiry about Arsenal attacker Gabriel Martinelli.
With an ability to play on either flank, the winger would offer versatility to Kompany’s side.
Martinelli, 24, is said to be “open” to options.
