Brentford have been one of the great stories in England over the past few years.
We have seen back-to-back seasons where all three promoted sides go straight back down.
Brentford have proved that a promoted side can be stable in the current Premier League climate.
Thomas Frank’s side beat Swansea City 2-0 in the 2021 Championship playoff final.
This win secured them top flight football for the first time in 74 years.
Brentford have adopted a smart transfer approach. They have been praised for their brilliant scouting system.
Positions of 13th, 9th, 16th and 10th have been achieved in their first four Premier League seasons.
Since their promotion, Brentford have been boosted by excellent goalkeeping.
Whether it has been David Raya in the first two years or Mark Flekken in the most recent couple of seasons, they have always been solid between the sticks.
In each of the first four seasons, they have had a goalkeeper in the top 12 for clean sheets.
Flekken ended the 2024/25 season in 12th place for clean sheets, with eight.
As a result, his services have been targeted by many European clubs.
Under new manager Erik ten Hag, Bayer Leverkusen are close to signing the Netherlands international for a deal worth €10 million.
Brentford appear to have found their replacement.
They have agreed a deal with Liverpool to sign Irish goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher for £12.5 million.
Such a fee could rise to £18.5 million due to performance related add-ons.
This is now Brentford’s second signing of the summer.
On May 28th, it was announced that they had signed Fiorentina right back Michael Kayode for €17 million.
Kelleher has been a brilliant servant to Liverpool.
He played a particularly big part in the cup competitions.
In the 2021/22 season, he was the hero in the Carabao Cup final as Liverpool beat Chelsea on penalties.
He has long deserved a number one spot and now gets his chance in West London.
