After winning the Club World Cup, expectations were high from Chelsea for this Premier League season. However, Enzo Maresca’s men didn’t start the season the way everyone expected.
The Blues are currently in 7th position in the table with 3 wins, 2 draws, and 2 losses. They lost to struggling Manchester United and Brighton.
However, the win in their last game against the title defenders Liverpool, will give hope to their fans regarding a revival and title push this season.
Now, Chelsea are once again looking to add young talent to their growing midfield unit.
The club have identified a Premier League star who has quietly become one of the most admired young players in England.
Now, according to TEAMtalk, Chelsea are now preparing to step up their pursuit of the Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton.
Since joining Palace in February 2024, the 21-year-old has enjoyed a rapid rise. Wharton has already made over 50 appearances and helped Palace to the FA Cup and Community Shield.
He also played a key part in their remarkable 18-match unbeaten run. The Blues were initially planning to make a move next summer. But they have to act sooner than expected.
Manchester United are also eyeing a move for the player as Ruben Amorim wants to add depth in the midfield.
Amorim sees the Palace star as his preferred midfield target after failing to secure Carlos Baleba from Brighton. This could force Chelsea to accelerate their plans if they want to avoid losing out.
Crystal Palace are expected to demand at least £70 million to even consider negotiations.
Even so, with Wharton’s stock rising and Manchester United circling, Chelsea could be forced into action sooner than planned.
