Chelsea have started rebuilding under Xabi Alonso after a turbulent campaign brought several managerial changes at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues appointed Alonso after finishing last season under Calum McFarlane and quickly strengthened two important areas.
Marco Palestra joined from Atalanta for £49 million, while Geovany Quenda completed his £44 million move from Sporting CP.
Chelsea have also sanctioned major departures as Alonso reshapes the squad for the upcoming campaign.
Andrey Santos moved to Manchester United, while Marc Cucurella completed a £47.5 million transfer to Real Madrid.
Meanwhile, Manchester United have focused heavily on rebuilding their midfield after securing Champions League qualification under Michael Carrick.
Youri Tielemans and Santos have already arrived, but United continue exploring another addition after abandoning their move for Ederson.
That search has brought them into competition with Liverpool, Arsenal and Atletico Madrid for one of the World Cup’s standout midfielders.
Manu Kone has helped Roma secure Champions League qualification before carrying his impressive form into the tournament with France.
He became an important figure during their knockout victories, although France left him out against Spain for starting lineup.
According to Corriere della Sera (via Sport Witness), Chelsea have now opened initial talks with Roma over Manu Kone and could intensify their pursuit soon.
The discussions emerged while Chelsea and Roma negotiated over Alejandro Garnacho, giving the Blues a direct route into talks.
Roma also learned during those conversations that Chelsea do not want to pursue Diego Moreira.
That development has encouraged Chelsea to consider Kone, particularly with Enzo Fernandez still linked with Real Madrid.
Roma want at least €50 million before opening serious negotiations over the France international this summer.
Manchester United have discussed Kone with his representatives, but they have not yet submitted a formal offer.
Therefore, Chelsea could move ahead if their initial conversations develop quickly in the coming days.
