Manchester United started their transfer business this summer with the acquisition of Matheus Cunha. But, after that deal, things got quite as Liam Delap chose Chelsea over United.
After weeks of negotiations with Brentford, the Red Devils were able to sign Bryan Mbeumo. The next target for the Red Devils was a striker.
First, they were looking to sign Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt. However, Liverpool and Newcastle United were also targeting the same player.
Ekitike chose the current Premier League champions over Manchester United. After that failure, Manchester United are set to sign Benjamin Sesko.
The Slovenian has already agreed personal terms with the Red Devils. Now, only the club-to-club agreement is left, and after that, Sesko will undergo his medical.
After securing the striker, Manchester United will be looking to add a midfielder. As reported by Transfer News Live earlier, the Red Devils are looking at Fermin Lopez from Barcelona.
Now, according to CaughtOffside, Chelsea have also joined the race to sign Fermin Lopez.
The Blues have a history of hijacking deals. However, in this case, Manchester United have yet to submit a bid. They are showing interest in the Barcelona player so far.
However, Chelsea are ready to place a bid of around €60 million. But this fee is well below the valuation of Barcelona.
The Catalan giants need to sell some players to manage their books. Fermin Lopez is one player who is drawing interest from several clubs across Europe.
Aston Villa were also showing interest in Lopez, but they have moved on. Now, it boils down to Manchester United and Chelsea from the Premier League.
Other clubs across Europe are also interested in Fermin Lopez. So, it will be interesting to see which club moves first to sign the Barcelona midfielder.
