Crystal Palace are preparing for another ambitious summer after securing European football once again.
However, the club now face an important transfer window as they attempt to maintain recent momentum. The Eagles qualified for the Europa League after winning the Conference League.
That triumph completed an extraordinary period for the club after also lifting the FA Cup and Community Shield during the previous 12 months.
Despite losing Oliver Glasner at the end of his contract, Palace still want to continue progressing under Steve Parish’s leadership.
The club also expect growing interest in several important first-team players as the transfer window develops.
However, Palace remain determined to keep the core of the squad together while adding more quality. Midfield has quickly become one of the key areas under review.
Daichi Kamada and Adam Wharton both face uncertain futures heading into the summer.
Therefore, Palace have already started targeting possible reinforcements capable of strengthening the squad before their European campaign begins.
That search has now led the club towards Middlesbrough captain Hayden Hackney.
According to the Daily Mail, Crystal Palace are preparing a £20M offer for the highly-rated midfielder this summer.
Hackney is widely expected to leave Middlesbrough after the club failed to secure promotion to the Premier League.
The midfielder also enters the final 12 months of his contract, which increases pressure on Middlesbrough ahead of the window. Everton currently lead the race for his signature.
However, the Merseyside club have already seen two bids rejected after offering around £12M and £15M for the England youth international.
Palace now hope to hijack the deal with a stronger proposal. Middlesbrough still reportedly want around £25M despite Hackney’s contract situation.
However, Palace believe European football and a clear development pathway could help convince the player to choose South London instead of Everton.
🚨 Exclusive: Crystal Palace are expected to offer a package close to £20million for Hayden Hackney. However, that is short of Middlesbrough’s £25m valuation.
