Bruno Guimaraes enjoyed another outstanding individual campaign despite Newcastle United‘s disappointing season.
The Brazilian captained the Magpies, won the club’s Player of the Year award and produced another influential campaign in midfield.
He also impressed for Brazil at the 2026 World Cup, where he registered four assists before their Round of 16 exit.
Meanwhile, Newcastle are preparing for another major rebuild after Eddie Howe’s departure.
Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali have already left the club this summer, while Ross Wilson has focused on signing younger players to reshape the squad.
The Magpies are also holding their preseason training camp in La Manga ahead of the new campaign. Arsenal have made Guimaraes one of their top transfer priorities.
Mikel Arteta wants another midfielder before the transfer window closes, and discussions between the two clubs have intensified in recent weeks.
The transfer saga has now taken another major step forward. According to David Ornstein, Arsenal and Newcastle United are nearing a total agreement for Bruno Guimaraes.
The report states that Guimaraes informed Newcastle of his desire to join Arsenal last month.
The Gunners initially indicated they were prepared to pay up to £60 million. But Newcastle rejected a verbal offer worth less than that figure. However, all parties now want to complete the transfer.
Ornstein reports that the deal is on course for completion, with Guimaraes waiting for permission to undergo a medical before sealing his move to north London.
The report adds that Guimaraes is currently with Newcastle’s squad at their pre-season training camp in La Manga.
The Brazilian has two years remaining on his contract after signing a five-year extension in October 2023.
Meanwhile, the Magpies also saw Tottenham Hotspur reject a bid worth around £46 million for Lucas Bergvall as they continue searching for midfield reinforcements.
