It has been a busy summer for Everton so far, as they embark on a new, post Goodison Park era.
The Toffees have moved to bring in striker Thierno Barry from Villarreal, and goalkeeper Mark Travers from AFC Bournemouth.
Additionally, they have made the permanent signing of Carlos Alcaraz from Flamengo after an impressive loan spell last season.
Meanwhile, they were able to tie down Idrissa Gueye down to a new contract instead of losing him for free.
After a difficult few seasons where they found themselves in relegation battles, they will now be hoping to look upwards after a comfortable 13th place finish last season.
Although there is a lot of emotion after Goodison for Hill Dickinson Stadium, there is optimism that they will be able to push on with David Moyes back at the helm.
With signings like Barry, and the new contract for Gueye, there is clear ambition from those upstairs to make the move to the new stadium a successful one on the pitch.
Well, it seems as if they may be showing even more ambition with the signing of a Brazilian international.
As per Gazzetta dello Sport via SportWitness, Moyes’ side are said to be leading the race for want away Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz.
They state that despite interest from West Ham United and Nottingham Forest, the Meresyside outfit are at the front of the queue.
Furthermore, it is reported that the 27-year old former Aston Villa midfielder wants a move to Everton.
However, they want to sign the player on a dry loan deal – whilst Juventus would prefer a loan with an obligation to buy the player next summer.
The Old Lady spent 50 million Euros on Luiz last summer, and want to recoup as much as possible.
Having the ball playing ability of the Brazilian midfielder alongside the tenacity of Gueye would give Everton one of the better midfields in the Premier League.
