The deal that has been building in secret for days has finally broken cover.
Romelu Lukaku said yes to Fenerbahce.
He didn’t even travel to Napoli’s pre-season training camp at Castel di Sangro.
However, his chapter in Italy is over.
Romelu Lukaku agrees personal terms with Fenerbahce as Napoli stand firm on £10m fee with deal in final stages
According to Gazzetta.it, the negotiations between Fenerbahce and Lukaku’s camp had been progressing quietly for days before a decisive sprint on Friday accelerated everything.
The Belgian even liked a social media video posted by the Turkish club.
That accidental endorsement made the unofficial official.
Lukaku has now said yes.
He has agreed a two-year contract worth €10 million including bonuses.
His agent Federico Pastorello was present at Napoli’s training base, not to reassure the club their striker was committed, but to finalise his departure.
The remaining obstacle is Napoli’s fee.
Napoli paid Chelsea €30 million plus bonuses for Lukaku in 2024.
They want at least €10-12 million back, enough to avoid registering a capital loss on the books.
Fenerbahce opened at €4-6 million.
Napoli rejected it.
A revised offer is expected imminently.
The parties are targeting closure within 48 hours.
Chelsea are also watching closely.
They inserted a 40% sell-on clause when they sold Lukaku to Napoli, meaning a fee of €10 million would generate around €4 million for Stamford Bridge regardless of their involvement.
For the 33-year-old, Fenerbahce represent a club in Champions League qualifying, a stage they want to advance from, with Lukaku as the striker capable of making the difference.
A new chapter has been a long time coming.
