Inter Milan close to agreeing deal for World Cup finalist

Inter hope an agreement can be reached soon.

Inter Milan remain determined to strengthen their defence before the transfer window closes.

The Serie A champions have already reshaped their backline this summer following the departures of Francesco Acerbi and Stefan de Vrij.

John Stones has arrived on a free transfer, but Cristian Chivu still wants another experienced central defender. Negotiations have centred on one of the club’s top targets.

Inter have spent several weeks in discussions with Tottenham Hotspur over a deal, although personal terms have delayed progress.

According to Corriere dello Sport on X, Inter are still working to complete the signing of Cristian Romero, with negotiations remaining active.

The report states that an agreement between the two clubs could be reached for around €40M, despite Tottenham requesting a slight improvement to Inter’s offer. The transfer is still not complete.

Romero’s salary demands previously slowed negotiations, but Inter have not abandoned their pursuit and continue searching for a breakthrough with both the player and Tottenham.

The Argentina international remains Inter’s priority defensive target. Romero helped Argentina reach the 2026 FIFA World Cup final and continues to attract interest from several European clubs.

However, Inter remain in pole position as they look to complete their defensive rebuild. Tottenham are also preparing for the possibility of his departure.

The North London club have already held talks with Inter throughout the summer. And these discussions will continue as both sides attempt to finalise the remaining details.

Inter hope an agreement can be reached soon so Romero can complete the move before preparations for the new season gather pace.
