After an impressive breakthrough two seasons ago, Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo saw a dip in form during the following campaign.

Mainoo’s stock was high after an impressive 2023/24 campaign.

This was a season that saw United finish eighth but reach their second consecutive FA Cup final, as they once again faced local rivals Manchester City.

This time, Man United were on the right side of victory, beating Pep Guardiola’s side 2-1 at Wembley Stadium and with Mainoo getting on the scoresheet.

Mainoo became the first English teenager to score in an FA Cup final since Steve MacKenzie in 1981, and the youngest scorer since Josh Sissons in 1964.

Mainoo saw performances drop in the 2024/25, as United underwent their worst season since the inception of the Premier League.

A 15th place league finish and a Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur has seen Man United’s stock at an all-time low.

One point from their opening two league games this season, along with a humiliating exit out of the Carabao Cup at the hands of Grimsby Town, has done nothing to improve this situation.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Mainoo has requested a loan move on multiple occasions.

Despite this, the club are committed to Mainoo.

They will hope that Mainoo can return to the form that he showed in 2023/24.

This was a season where he scored a last minute winner against Wolverhampton Wanderers and a crucial goal in a 2-2 draw against Liverpool.

If this happens and they can secure his long-term future, then there will be one bright spark going forward for the club.
