Julian Alvarez has become a target for both Arsenal and Chelsea. Both Premier League clubs are looking for a new striker next summer.
Alvarez was a key part of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City when they won the treble in 2023. He scored 17 goals in all competitions that season.
Also, he won the FIFA World Cup with Argentina in 2022, which made him the first player in history to win the World Cup and a continental treble in the same season.
However, he never became the first-choice striker for Pep Guardiola because of the presence of Erling Haaland. So, he left City to join Atletico Madrid in 2024 for €95 million.
The Argentine became the record-sale in the history of Manchester City. And since joining the Spanish club, he has gone to a new level.
Alvarez has scored 41 goals in 91 appearances for Atletico. And his performances have drawn eyeballs from Arsenal and Chelsea.
However, Barcelona are also monitoring his situation as they want him to replace Robert Lewandowski next summer.
Now, Alvarez has made his choice clear regarding the next club he wants to join. According to SPORT, Julian Alvarez wants to join Barcelona if he leaves Atletico Madrid.
This will be a huge blow for both Arsenal and Chelsea. The Gunners signed Viktor Gyokeres with the hope of finding a prolific goal scorer.
They hoped that Gyokeres would find similar success to that he found at Sporting CP. But so far, he has yet to fully adjust to the Premier League.
As for Chelsea, they signed Liam Delap and Joao Pedro last summer. However, neither striker has lived up to the expectations at Stamford Bridge.
However, with Alvarez making his choice clear, both Arsenal and Chelsea will be looking to find a new striker.
And one striker they would have liked to sign is now close to signing a new deal with his current club, as Transfer News Live already revealed.
