Liverpool have started the 2026/27 Premier League season unbeaten after overseeing significant changes to Andoni Iraola’s squad.
The Reds collected points from their opening five matches, including victories against Ipswich Town and Bournemouth.
Their encouraging start followed a busy summer in which Mohamed Salah, Andrew Robertson and Ibrahima Konate departed on free transfers.
Liverpool responded by strengthening several areas, with Bradley Barcola and Victor Munoz arriving to bolster their attacking options.
Jeremy Jacquet joined the defensive ranks, while Ronald Araujo arrived from Barcelona on a season-long loan.
However, Liverpool are already assessing potential opportunities for 2027 as they continue shaping Iraola’s squad.
According to TEAMtalk, Liverpool are now monitoring Atletico Madrid star Marcos Llorente as uncertainty surrounds his future in Spain.
The 31-year-old’s existing Atletico contract expires next summer, although the Spanish club have already opened negotiations over fresh terms.
Atletico remain confident they can reach an agreement with Llorente and retain one of Diego Simeone’s key players.
Liverpool are monitoring developments as they consider their future options at both right-back and in central midfield.
Llorente’s versatility across those positions has made him an attractive option as the Reds assess their plans for 2027.
However, Liverpool could face Premier League competition if the Spaniard becomes available.
TEAMtalk reports that Chelsea and Manchester City are also monitoring his situation, while Bayern Munich and Barcelona are keeping watch.
Llorente joined Atletico from Real Madrid for around £30 million in 2019 and has since made more than 300 appearances.
His representatives remain aware of the growing interest despite the player’s previous desire to finish his career with Atletico.
Liverpool’s chances of pursuing a deal will therefore depend heavily on the outcome of his ongoing contract discussions.
Atletico remain determined to secure an extension, but failure to reach an agreement could create an opportunity for Liverpool and his other suitors.
