Liverpool have made an unbeaten start to the 2026/27 Premier League campaign during Andoni Iraola’s first season at Anfield.
The Reds collected points from their opening five matches, including victories over Ipswich Town and Bournemouth.
Their encouraging start follows major summer changes after Mohamed Salah, Andrew Robertson and Ibrahima Konate left on free transfers.
Liverpool responded by spending heavily, with Bradley Barcola becoming their headline attacking arrival from Paris Saint-Germain.
Victor Munoz also strengthened the attack, while Jeremy Jacquet and Ronald Araujo added further options in central defence.
However, Liverpool are already considering their longer-term defensive plans, with Virgil van Dijk’s future becoming an important factor.
According to Football Insider, Liverpool are plotting a move for Tottenham Hotspur captain Micky van de Ven.
The Reds have admired the 25-year-old for some time and could reignite their pursuit during 2027.
Liverpool view Van de Ven as a potential long-term replacement for Van Dijk, whose existing contract expires in June 2027.
Van Dijk remains an important member of Iraola’s starting line-up, but Liverpool have started preparing for his eventual departure.
Meanwhile, Van de Ven could be open to discussing a move to Anfield following Tottenham’s difficult start under Roberto De Zerbi.
Tottenham remain reluctant to lose their captain and would demand a significant transfer fee, particularly from a Premier League rival.
Liverpool previously identified the Netherlands international as a leading defensive target, but no move materialised during the summer.
The Reds could now revisit that interest if Tottenham continue struggling during the current campaign.
Liverpool strengthened their defensive options during the summer by signing Jacquet and taking Araujo on a season-long loan from Barcelona. Nevertheless, their planning for life beyond Van Dijk could lead them back to Van de Ven in 2027.
Tottenham’s position and Van de Ven’s willingness to discuss a potential switch could ultimately determine whether Liverpool advance their interest.
