Liverpool continue to reshape their squad under Andoni Iraola. The Reds have already strengthened their attack with the signing of Victor Munoz.
They also remain active in the market as they search for a long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah. However, Liverpool need reinforcements in defence as well.
Ibrahima Konate has left the club, leaving Iraola short of experienced options at the back. As a result, Liverpool have monitored several centre-backs ahead of the new season.
One Premier League defender has attracted plenty of attention.
Micky van de Ven has established himself as one of Tottenham Hotspur‘s most important players since arriving in North London. Liverpool have tracked his situation for months. However, the Reds have now received an unwelcome update.
According to Ben Jacobs, Tottenham are preparing to open fresh contract talks with Micky van de Ven and have no intention of selling the Netherlands international this summer.
That stance comes at an important time for Spurs. Cristian Romero continues to attract interest from elsewhere, and Tottenham do not want to lose two key defenders in the same transfer window.
The report suggests Tottenham will now try to convince the 25-year-old to commit his long-term future to the project under Roberto De Zerbi.
Meanwhile, Jacobs also claims Liverpool do not currently plan to pursue Van de Ven this summer despite recent speculation linking the defender with a move to Anfield.
Even so, Tottenham’s position remains clear. The North London club want Van de Ven to stay and are moving quickly to secure his future.
Spurs have already acted aggressively in the transfer market. The club has strengthened its defence with the arrivals of Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke.
Tottenham also continue to push for Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali as De Zerbi looks to build a stronger squad.
Now, by opening new contract talks with Van de Ven, Tottenham hope to remove any uncertainty surrounding one of their most valuable players.
More on Spurs and Sandro Tonali. A fresh bid is expected. Manchester City remain active as well.
