Liverpool receive fresh encouragement to seal deal for PSG star as Arsenal plan hijack move

Liverpool must now decide whether to meet PSG’s demands before Arsenal make their move.

Liverpool are pushing to strengthen their attack after a disappointing 2025-26 campaign.

The Reds finished fifth in the Premier League with 60 points and secured Champions League qualification.

However, their season fell well short of expectations and eventually led to a managerial change. Andoni Iraola has since taken charge and Liverpool have started reshaping the squad.

Jeremy Jacquet, Victor Munoz and Ifeanyi Ndukwe have arrived, while Mohamed Salah left for Trabzonspor.

Preseason has produced mixed results. Liverpool beat Sunderland and Wrexham before losing 4-2 to Leeds United. Their latest outing ended in a 3-2 defeat against Monaco at Anfield.

The club now want another winger to strengthen Iraola’s attack after Salah’s departure.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Bradley Barcola has given Liverpool the green light on personal terms.

The 23-year-old PSG attacker is open to joining the Reds, which gives Liverpool fresh encouragement in their pursuit.

However, PSG still want around £130 million for Barcola. Liverpool remain in negotiations over the fee and have not yet reached an agreement with the French champions.

That delay has opened the door for Arsenal. Mikel Arteta wants another winger after Leandro Trossard joined Besiktas.

Arsenal also missed out on Vinicius Junior after the Real Madrid star agreed a new contract. The Gunners are now preparing to challenge Liverpool for Barcola and could attempt to hijack the deal.

Liverpool still hold an advantage because Barcola has already approved a potential move to Anfield. However, Arsenal remain firmly in the race while PSG maintain their high valuation.

Barcola has scored 39 goals in 152 appearances for PSG since joining from Lyon in 2023. He has also struggled to secure an automatic starting place because of strong competition in attack.
