Manchester City successfully hijack deal for Arsenal target

Arsenal are now left searching for alternative options after seeing another key target slip away.

Manchester City have continued their aggressive summer rebuild after ushering in a new era under Enzo Maresca.

The Premier League runners-up have already broken their transfer record by completing a £116 million deal for Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson.

They have also parted ways with long-serving figures John Stones and Bernardo Silva.

The club’s recruitment team is now focusing on adding elite young talent as Maresca shapes his squad for the future.

Arsenal had also made youth recruitment a major priority after ending their 22-year wait for the Premier League title.

Sporting director Andrea Berta cleared space within the squad following the departures of Jakub Kiwior and Karl Hein.

After that he turned his attention towards Leicester City’s highly-rated teenager Jeremy Monga.

The Gunners spent months working on a deal and held lengthy discussions with Leicester over a transfer worth between £10 million and £15 million.

However, they failed to reach a breakthrough as negotiations stalled. That allowed Manchester City to make their move.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City have now completed an agreement to sign Jeremy Monga from Leicester City.

City’s long-standing interest proved decisive as they quickly reached Leicester’s valuation before Monga becomes eligible to sign a professional contract on July 10.

Having already strengthened the heart of their midfield with Anderson, City have now added one of England’s brightest teenage prospects.
