Manchester United and Chelsea battle for Premier League star

Manchester United’s £60m Alex Scott pursuit hits serious talks.

Some transfer situations reach a point where a club simply holds all the leverage.

Where the asking price doesn’t move.

And despite significant interest from some of the biggest clubs in England, the south coast side are pushing back hard.

Manchester United’s £60m Alex Scott pursuit hits serious talks

According to TEAMtalk, Manchester United’s move for Scott is now in serious talks, with Bournemouth tabling a lucrative new contract offer in a determined effort to retain one of the most coveted midfielders in the Premier League.

Chelsea have also stepped up their interest significantly, with background checks intensifying as Xabi Alonso’s side look to strengthen their engine room.

But for now, Bournemouth hold the advantage.

Scott’s existing contract runs until 2028.

However, the club have just secured Europa League football for next season.

And their valuation of £60 million or more gives them every reason to dig in.

The 22-year-old has earned every bit of the interest surrounding him.

An outstanding campaign on the south coast saw him earn a place in Thomas Tuchel’s provisional England World Cup squad.

The kind of player who makes a midfield tick on both sides of the ball.

For Manchester United, INEOS have conducted internal discussions and view Scott as an ideal fit alongside Kobbie Mainoo in their midfield rebuild.

Scott has previously stated he would only leave for a club competing in the Champions League.

But Bournemouth’s Europa League adventure could change that calculation.

Sources indicate he is open to staying.

And with departing manager Andoni Iraola praising his importance to the team as one of his final acts before leaving for Crystal Palace, the environment around Scott at the Vitality Stadium feels positive rather than fractured.

The summer will ultimately tell the story.

But right now, Bournemouth hold the cards.

And they’re playing them with confidence.
