For years, the Premier League has a destination for the Bundesliga’s best talents.
From Erling Haaland and Jadon Sancho to Manuel Akanji, England’s top clubs have often turned to Germany for fresh blood.
Manchester United, too, have joined this pattern befor and it looks like they are about to do it again.
After missing out on Jude Bellingham and seeing the success of others like Kai Havertz and Jamal Musiala, the Red Devils are scouting someone new.
Their midfield rebuild under Ruben Amorim is expected to be central to this summer’s plans.
With Casemiro aging and Eriksen leaving, United want someone younger and more dynamic.
The player they are targeting is 24 and knows English well.
He even spent some of his early footballing days in Manchester, though not at United.
His strength lies in duels, where he outperforms most of United’s current midfielders with an 89.3% success rate that is better than Bruno Fernandes, Kobbie Mainoo, and even Manuel Ugarte.
Defensively, he is solid too. A defensive actions percentile of 72.8 puts him behind only Casemiro and Ugarte among his potential United peers.
When it comes to carrying the ball forward, he manages 37.5 progressive carries per percentile, nearly matching Ugarte. Still, there are question marks.
He is far behind Bruno in creativity. He creates fewer key passes than Mainoo and even lags behind Casemiro in terms of progressive passes.
The stats show he is more well-rounded than exceptional in any one category.
According to CaughtOffside, Manchester United are seriously interested in signing this Bundesliga midfielder, Felix Nmecha.
Dortmund, however, are unwilling to let him go without a fight. They see his potential and are not ready to sell unless an irresistible offer arrives.
For United, the question remains, should they invest heavily in a player who might not be a clear upgrade?
Sometimes, the numbers speak louder than the hype.
