Manchester United eye former Newcastle United midfielder

Manchester United spent heavily in the summer, bringing in five new faces to Old Trafford.

But even with the new arrivals, one key area remained untouched.

Ruben Amorim’s midfield still looks short, and the club know they must address the situation.

The signs were clear as the window closed. United wanted to sign Brighton talent Carlos Baleba, only to be told he was off limits.

They may revive their pursuit in January, while Ruben Neves is also under consideration.

The Al-Hilal midfielder fits the profile, though prising him away mid-season will not be easy.

Amorim, however, has pushed for options. The fixture list will only get tougher after Christmas, and United cannot afford to be caught thin in such a crucial time.

The squad needs fresh energy and competition. The recruitment team has already drawn up a list of candidates.

One name in particular has caused plenty of chatter behind the scenes. According to TEAMtalk, that player is Elliot Anderson.

The midfielder left Newcastle for Nottingham Forest in a £35m switch last year, and his rise since then has been remarkable.

Two goals and six assists in his debut campaign, followed by a smooth step into Gareth Southgate’s senior plans, show why United are circling.

Forest, though, will not roll over. Anderson has a contract with Forest until 2029. And the club believe he can become the heartbeat of their project under Ange Postecoglou.

That makes a January deal complicated, especially with Forest pushing for a spot in the Europa League knockouts.

Still, United are watching closely. Should Anderson’s role shift under Postecoglou, the Red Devils would be ready to test Forest’s resolve.

For Amorim, the goal is clear. He needs to add a midfielder who can shape United’s present, but also anchor their future. Anderson may just fit that description.
