Manchester United are actively looking for a new striker, and one name has suddenly jumped to the top of their list.

After missing out on Liam Delap, who has chosen Chelsea instead, United are now seriously considering a powerful forward who helped fire Crystal Palace to a historic FA Cup win.

The man in question enjoyed a breakout season, scoring 17 goals in all competitions and proving he can deliver in big games.

His physical style, sharp finishing, and ability to link play have impressed many, including clubs outside England. Now, he could be next in line to lead the attack at Old Trafford.

But there is a big problem. While Manchester United are clearly interested, the striker is not in a rush to make the move.

At 27, he wants to take the next step in his career and that means playing Champions League football. With United failing to qualify, this could be a major stumbling block in any potential deal.

Manager Ruben Amorim is expected to reshuffle his forward line this summer, especially after Rasmus Hojlund’s disappointing return of just four Premier League goals.

The club had also shown interest in Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko, but both remain expensive and uncertain targets.

As reported by The Independent via Goal.com, the striker United now want most is none other than Jean-Philippe Mateta.

After a standout year at Selhurst Park, the Frenchman is now being watched by top clubs.

With Ruben Amorim expected to reshape United’s attack, the club may soon need to decide whether to meet Palace’s asking price or look for other targets.

Also, unless United can convince Jean-Philippe Mateta that their project is worth joining without Champions League football, they might lose out once again.

The search continues, but the clock is ticking.
