Manchester United find Joshua Zirkzee replacement from Bundesliga

United will only intensify their search for another number nine if Zirkzee leaves Old Trafford.

Manchester United have concentrated much of their summer business on rebuilding Michael Carrick’s midfield options.

The Red Devils strengthened that department by signing Carlos Baleba, Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos.

Baleba represented their biggest midfield investment, with United paying Brighton a reported £65 million for the Cameroon international.

United also added Karl Darlow, Tynan Thompson and Kit Margetson while several players departed Old Trafford.

Rasmus Hojlund completed a permanent £43 million move to Napoli following his previous loan spell in Italy.

Casemiro also departed after reaching the end of his contract, further contributing to United’s midfield overhaul.

However, Carrick could still make further additions before the summer transfer window closes.

A new left-back remains among their priorities, with Alejandro Balde and Ferdi Kadioglu both linked with moves.

United have also faced questions over their attacking depth following a difficult beginning to the Premier League campaign.

Marcus Rashford has returned after spending last season on loan at Barcelona and reclaimed the number nine shirt.

However, Joshua Zirkzee could still leave Old Trafford before the deadline amid interest from Fiorentina.

The Serie A club are reportedly holding advanced talks over a deal for the Netherlands international.

Therefore, United are considering another striker who could replace Zirkzee if they sanction his departure.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness), Manchester United are rivalling Tottenham Hotspur and Fiorentina for Freiburg striker Igor Matanovic.

The 23-year-old scored 11 Bundesliga goals last season and has attracted attention during the closing stages of the window.

Fiorentina are also interested in Matanovic, although their pursuit of Zirkzee could complicate their plans.

Meanwhile, Tottenham have entered the race, creating further competition for United if they decide to make a move.

United will only intensify their search for another number nine if Zirkzee leaves Old Trafford.

For now, United remain alert to the Croatian striker while continuing their search for defensive reinforcements.
