After that Carabao Cup loss against Grimsby Town last night, the writing’s on the wall for Ruben Amorim. His days as the Manchester United manager could be numbered.
During the preseason, Manchester United showed glimpses of the Ruben Amorim style of football. And then, the 2025/26 Premier League started.
In their first game against Arsenal, United did perform well. But they failed to score, and the goal they conceded was due to a goalkeeping error from Altay Bayindir.
The next game of Manchester United was against Fulham at Craven Cottage. Bruno Fernandes hit a home run with the penalty he took. and United drew 1-1.
And the final nail in the coffin could be the loss to Grimsby Town. Amorim is already carrying the baggage of the last season.
The wounds of the last season are yet to heal. And his team is adding salt to those wounds. With that, the Red Devils could be in line for the end of another cycle of a manager. Since Sir Alex Ferguson retired, the same cycle is going on.
David Moyes, Ryan Giggs, Louis Van Gaal, Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Michael Carrick, Ralf Rangnick, Erik ten Hag, and Ruud van Nistelrooy: that is the list of managers before Amorim took charge.
Now, with Ruben Amorim, who was once tipped to replace Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, most people thought that the cycle would end.
Well, they are on the cusp of repeating the same cycle. According to indyKaila News (via CaughtOffside), Manchester United are already eyeing a replacement for Ruben Amorim.
The Portuguese manager is walking on thin ice. The Red Devils hierarchy has identified Andoni Iraola and Oliver Glasner as the two probable candidates to replace Amorim.
In the next game, Manchester United will face Burnley. And, if they fail to get three points against the newly-promoted side, then that could be the last game for Ruben Amorim as the Manchester United manager.
