Manchester United are continuing to strengthen their squad after securing a return to the Champions League under Michael Carrick.
The Red Devils enjoyed an impressive 2025–26 campaign and built a strong foundation for the next stage of their rebuild.
Meanwhile, the club have already completed several important additions during an active summer transfer window.
Andrey Santos arrived from Chelsea for £50M, while Youri Tielemans joined from Aston Villa for £36M.
United also added Karl Darlow on a free transfer and signed 18-year-old forward Tynan Thompson from Tottenham Hotspur.
However, further additions remain possible as Carrick looks to strengthen several areas before the new campaign begins.
The club are prioritising another midfielder but could also add defensive reinforcements if their finances allow.
Their attention has now turned towards a versatile Premier League defender who impressed significantly at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to Football Insider, Manchester United are weighing up a move for Tottenham Hotspur full-back Djed Spence.
The 25-year-old emerged on United’s radar after producing several impressive performances for England during the tournament.
Spence featured in all eight of England’s World Cup matches despite playing through a broken jaw with a protective brace.
Moreover, his ability to operate on both defensive flanks adds significant value to his profile.
He also made 30 Premier League appearances for Spurs last season and featured 10 times in the Champions League.
Tottenham reportedly value Spence at around £40M following his strong performances for club and country.
Meanwhile, Inter Milan have stepped away from negotiations after failing to get close to Spurs’ asking price.
Liverpool have also shown serious interest in the England international as they look to strengthen their own full-back options.
For now, Manchester United are considering whether to make a move as competition for Spence continues to develop during the summer window.
