Manchester United join race to sign Atletico Madrid forward

Interest in the forward increased further following his impressive World Cup campaign.

Manchester United have endured an inconsistent start to the 2026-27 campaign under Michael Carrick.

Their Premier League form has placed the team under pressure, with defensive vulnerabilities remaining a concern.

A recent 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur further highlighted their struggle for consistency.

United have enjoyed more encouraging results in Europe and now face Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.

The club also invested significantly during the summer transfer window. Several new arrivals were brought in to strengthen Carrick’s squad and provide options for his tactical system.

However, United are already looking at potential future additions as they consider further improvements to their attacking options.

According to TEAMtalk, Manchester United made an enquiry about Atletico Madrid forward Giuliano Simeone during the summer.

Manchester City also enquired about the 23-year-old, while Tottenham Hotspur have explored the possibility of signing him in recent months.

Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi is a major admirer of Simeone. He believes the Argentine would suit his system and the demands of English football.

Interest in the forward increased further following his impressive World Cup campaign.

Simeone has established himself as an important member of Atletico’s first-team squad. His relentless work rate and attacking qualities have particularly impressed when operating from wide areas.

Atletico, however, showed little interest in allowing him to leave during the summer.

Simeone is also enjoying life in Madrid and has shown no indication that he wants to pursue a transfer.

His father, Diego Simeone, remains Atletico’s manager and has defended his son’s contribution amid scrutiny surrounding his role.

Manchester United would therefore face considerable difficulty turning their interest into a transfer.

Tottenham and Manchester City provide further Premier League competition, while Atletico continue to value Simeone highly.

For now, United’s enquiry leaves them among the English clubs keeping a close watch on the Argentine forward’s situation.
