Manchester United would have hoped for a better start to their 2025/26 season after the nightmare they experienced last time around.
The Red Devils did change their front three after parting ways with the prominent wingers at the club.
Ruben Amorim signed the likes of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, players who are suitable for the system the Portuguese boss wants to implement at Old Trafford.
However, there was a missing piece in his puzzle that he failed to find this summer. And that missing piece is costing United a lot.
After signing Benjamin Sesko, Ruben Amorim was adamant about signing a midfielder. That is why the Red Devils approach the man Amorim wanted at Old Trafford.
Now, even the Brighton Chief has addressed what happened in that entire Carlos Baleba to Manchester United saga.
It was an embarrassment for United, and that is why in January, they will be looking at other targets. Elliot Andreson from Nottingham Forest is one of those main targets.
However, there is no doubt that United would love to sign someone like Adam Wharton, who can help Amorim get a grip in the midfield.
There were rumours that United would struggle to sign Wharton because Real Madrid would make their move in January for the former Blackburn Rovers star.
However, Sky Sports News has revealed the truth. According to the report, Crystal Palace will not be selling Adam Wharton, no matter which club approaches.
The Englishman has a contract with Palace that expires in 2029. And, the way Oliver Glasner’s men have performed, it looks like they will be in the race for the top 4 this season.
So, there is no point in selling Adam Wharton in January. However, if a good offer arrives next summer, Palace will contemplate.
As for Manchester United, they need to qualify for the Champions League if they want to sign Adam Wharton. Otherwise, European heavyweights are waiting to pounce.
