Manchester United are pushing strongly to sign a new midfielder this summer as the club continue planning for Champions League football next season.
After Casemiro left the club at the end of the season, they are looking for an ideal replacement. The Red Devils know that signing a replacement for Casemiro will not be easy.
United have reportedly agreed on a deal for Atalanta midfielder Ederson. However, Manchester United want to sign multiple midfielders this summer.
They already have the likes of Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton, and Carlos Baleba on their list of targets. Yet, United know that Anderson could go to Manchester City.
Also, there is a high chance that Wharton could join Liverpool or sign a new deal with Palace.
Meanwhile, Baleba’s form has not been great, and the Cameroonian has lost his starting place at Brighton.
That is why Manchester United have set their sights on another target who could be available at a lower price, and also, Bruno Fernandes wants that player at United.
According to CaughtOffside sources, Manchester United are leading the race for West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes.
The midfielder is also reportedly attracted by the opportunity to play Champions League football with Manchester United. However, United are not alone in the pursuit.
Arsenal continue monitoring the player as a possible replacement for Christian Norgaard. Paris Saint-Germain and Atletico Madrid are also following developments closely.
Chelsea and Aston Villa have entered the race as well, while Juventus, Inter Milan, and Napoli are all keeping tabs on the situation from Italy.
The 21-year-old joined West Ham from Southampton last summer in a €44 million deal and quickly established himself as one of the club’s standout players.
However, West Ham’s disappointing season and relegation have significantly increased the chances of the midfielder leaving during the current transfer window.
The London club reportedly value Fernandes between €50 million and €60 million. However, relegation could force them to lower the price later in the summer.
