One young defender from Elche has now caught their attention. The La Liga side have started the season well. They sit 7th in the table with 13 points from eight matches.
So far, they have lost just once. David Affengruber has played every match this season. The 24-year-old has quickly become a key figure in Elche’s defence.
Affengruber joined from Sturm Graz in August 2024 and has already made 50 appearances for the club. According to Fichajes, Manchester United have now placed the Austrian on their radar.
The club are monitoring his form closely and are weighing up a potential move as a replacement for Harry Maguire.
Atletico Madrid and Sevilla are also showing interest. Both Spanish clubs have been impressed with how quickly Affengruber has adapted to La Liga.
Still, Manchester United may have the edge. Elche would not want to lose their standout defender.
But if a major offer arrives, they may not be in a position to refuse. A club of United’s size could force their hand. Now, Manchester United must decide whether to move quickly.
The Red Devils don’t want to be in the position they were in this summer when Victor Lindelof left for free, and they didn’t sign a replacement.
That is why Manchester United are expected to bring in a new centre-back in 2026 if Harry Maguire leaves the club after his contract expires.
