Manchester United are once again being linked with a surprise name as they search for creativity in midfield. The situation has become more urgent in recent days.
United will host Wolves this week. However, they will do so without their captain. Bruno Fernandes is unavailable for the final fixture of the calendar year.
Ruben Amorim confirmed the news ahead of the game. He made it clear Fernandes would not be available.
The Portuguese midfielder picked up a muscle injury against Aston Villa after enjoying one of his best seasons in a United shirt.
Fernandes has scored five goals and provided seven assists in the Premier League this season. His absence leaves a clear problem. United lack creativity from deep areas.
Against Newcastle United, Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte started in midfield. Between them, they have managed just one league assist all season.
There is also growing talk that this could be Fernandes’ final season at Old Trafford. Because of that, INEOS are already looking at players who can provide goals and assists from midfield.
United have already held talks with Lassine Sinayoko. But another name has now emerged. And it is not one many expected.
According to Defensa Central, United are considering a shock move for Trent Alexander-Arnold. The former Liverpool player is currently struggling in Spain.
He is known as one of the best crossers of the ball in world football. Alexander-Arnold has found life difficult since his move to Real Madrid this summer.
Injuries and form issues have limited him to just five La Liga starts. He is also one of the club’s highest earners.
The report claims Manchester United, Newcastle United, and Manchester City would be willing to pay around €40 million if Madrid decide to sell.
If Manchester United sign Trent Alexander-Arnold, it could become a controversial move like when they signed Michael Owen in 2009.
