Manchester United linked with surprise move for centre-back

Manchester United are watching closely.

Transfer Update - Man Utd

Manchester United are eyeing a move for a centre-back. After the recent departure of Ruben Amorim, United’s season has taken a shaky turn.

The Red Devils are looking to appoint a caretaker manager to help them get through this season and qualify for the Champions League.

However, injuries to Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt have made things complicated. Also the performance of Ayden Heaven has been far from convincing.

That is why United are looking add a new centre-back to their ranks. And now, they are linked with a centre-back from the Serie A.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness), Manchester United are monitoring Sassuolo’s centre-back Tarik Muharemovic.

The Bosnian defender has quietly emerged as one of the standout centre-backs in Serie A this season.

Muharemovic’s rise has not gone unnoticed, and his performances are now drawing interest from several Premier League clubs, including United.

The 22-year-old has featured 15 times in Serie A for Sassuolo this campaign. Along with United, Aston Villa and AFC Bournemouth are also showing interest in Muharemovic.

Meanwhile, interest is not limited to England. Inter Milan are also tracking the defender and reportedly see him as a long-term replacement for Stefan de Vrij.

However, Juventus still hold a 50 percent sell-on clause from Muharemovic’s transfer, which could significantly influence negotiations.

That clause may give the Bianconeri an advantage if they decide to re-enter the race or leverage talks.

Sassuolo currently value the defender at around €30 million. However, they have no intention of selling in January.

Instead, their plan is to allow his value to rise further by the summer, having signed him from Juventus for just €3 million. For now, Manchester United are watching closely.

Whether that interest turns into a formal move may depend on how competitive the race becomes and how much Sassuolo’s valuation grows in the months ahead.
