Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes enjoyed another outstanding campaign during the 2025–26 season.
The 31-year-old scored nine Premier League goals and registered a record 21 assists. His performances helped Michael Carrick’s side secure Champions League qualification.
Fernandes also won the FWA Footballer of the Year and Premier League Player of the Season awards.
He then represented Portugal at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. However, Spain ended their campaign with a 1–0 victory in the round of 16.
Attention has since turned towards Fernandes’ future at Old Trafford. The midfielder has entered the final 12 months of his contract. Manchester United can also extend his deal for another season.
Several European clubs have subsequently shown interest in signing the United captain.
According to BBC Sport, Manchester United intend to reject any offer for Fernandes before the transfer deadline.
Galatasaray have considered testing United’s resolve and had prepared a deal worth up to €50 million (£42.7m).
Juventus and AC Milan have also considered moves for the Portugal international.
However, senior figures at Old Trafford have made their position clear. Club sources insist that Fernandes is not for sale at any price. United have yet to receive an official bid for their captain.
The club took a different stance when Al-Hilal pursued Fernandes last summer. United allowed him to decide whether he wanted to accept the Saudi club’s lucrative proposal.
Fernandes chose to remain in Manchester. He later admitted that the club’s position had left him feeling disappointed. United have now removed any uncertainty surrounding their intentions.
Fernandes also prefers to stay at Old Trafford. His previous £57 million release clause has expired, strengthening United’s position. However, the two parties have not yet agreed a contract extension.
Manchester United now intend to keep their captain for the new campaign. Their firm stance leaves Galatasaray with little prospect of completing a deal before the transfer deadline.
