Manchester United have endured a difficult start to the 2026–27 Premier League season under Michael Carrick.
United suffered a 2–0 defeat against newly promoted Hull City after experiencing an inconsistent European pre-season campaign.
Carrick’s side started their preparations with a defeat against Wrexham before recording victories over Rosenborg and Atletico Madrid.
However, United later drew against Paris Saint-Germain and Leeds United before suffering a 4–2 defeat against AC Milan.
Their struggles continued against Hull despite United controlling 72% possession during their opening Premier League fixture.
United have responded by strengthening their squad considerably during the closing stages of the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils finalised a £70 million agreement for Carlos Baleba after previously signing Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans.
However, United are also looking towards their long-term defensive plans as they consider another Bundesliga addition.
According to CaughtOffside, Manchester United have received positive scouting reports on Finn Jeltsch and could make official contact with Stuttgart.
The 20-year-old centre-back has attracted interest from several major European clubs following his development in Germany.
United admire Jeltsch’s technical ability and composure in possession, although they face considerable competition for his signature.
Bayern Munich have shown serious interest, while Liverpool, Arsenal and Juventus are also monitoring the Stuttgart defender.
Furthermore, Jeltsch has a contract with Stuttgart until June 2030, which strengthens the German club’s negotiating position considerably.
Stuttgart signed Jeltsch from Nurnberg in February 2025 and handed him a long-term contract following his arrival.
The Bundesliga club could demand around €50 million before considering allowing the young defender to leave.
However, Jeltsch recently made his position clear and indicated that he remains focused on continuing his career with Stuttgart.
Therefore, United could face a difficult task convincing Stuttgart and Jeltsch if they decide to advance their interest.
