Manchester United are planning a busy summer transfer window. Michael Carrick wants to strengthen several areas of his squad. The club has already focused heavily on midfield additions.
Casemiro left Old Trafford after his contract expired. As a result, United need at least one new midfielder before the new season begins.
The return of Champions League football has also increased the urgency. Carrick knows his squad must cope with a tougher schedule. More competition for places remains a key objective.
That is why United continue to pursue Mateus Fernandes. The West Ham United midfielder has emerged as one of the club’s leading targets. Talks over a potential move are already progressing.
However, Fernandes may not be the only player United sign from the Hammers. According to The Athletic, United have also opened discussions over Crysencio Summerville.
The Dutch winger has attracted serious interest from Old Trafford. United have reportedly made enquiries about his situation.
The club also understands that West Ham value the player at around £50 million. The move could depend on developments involving Marcus Rashford.
Barcelona recently decided against activating their option to sign the England international permanently. That decision leaves uncertainty around Rashford’s future.
Consequently, United are assessing alternative options in wide areas. Summerville has now emerged as one of those targets. The winger enjoyed a strong start to the World Cup.
He scored during his country’s opening match of the tournament. His performances have only increased interest in his services.
Meanwhile, West Ham’s relegation has changed the situation significantly. Several key players are now expected to leave the club. Summerville appears to be among them.
The Dutch attacker is unlikely to want Championship football next season. Interest from Manchester United offers a route back to the Premier League. Mateus Fernandes also faces a similar situation.
So, United’s interest in both West Ham stars appears genuine as they continue shaping their squad for the 2026-27 campaign.
