Manchester United enjoyed an impressive 2025-26 campaign under Michael Carrick.
The Red Devils finished third in the Premier League and secured their return to the UEFA Champions League. The strong finish also restored optimism around Old Trafford after a difficult period.
The club has wasted little time in the transfer market. United have already agreed a deal for Ederson and continue talks over Mateus Fernandes.
Midfield remains the priority as Carrick looks to reshape his squad before the new season. United have also cleared space for new arrivals. Casemiro, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia have all departed.
Those exits have allowed the club to pursue more than one midfield target this summer. Felix Nmecha has emerged as one of the names under serious consideration.
The Borussia Dortmund midfielder enhanced his reputation after an impressive season and strong World Cup campaign with Germany.
According to The Athletic, Manchester United have already made enquiries to discover whether Nmecha is available this summer.
The report states Felix Nmecha is keen on returning to England after previously coming through Manchester City’s academy.
It also claims he wants to continue playing Champions League football. Reports in Germany suggest Borussia Dortmund want €120 million for the midfielder.
However, the Bundesliga club could accept less than €100 million because they know the higher valuation would discourage potential buyers.
Despite that, Manchester United reportedly value Nmecha closer to the £50 million mark. The gap between both clubs remains significant, meaning negotiations could prove difficult.
Nmecha is not the only midfielder on United’s shortlist. Alex Scott also remains under consideration, although Bournemouth continue to reject approaches for the England international.
The Cherries reportedly value Scott at more than £80 million, while United would rather pay around £60 million.
