Manchester United signed Harry Maguire in 2019 from Leicester City in a world-record £80 million deal for a centre-back.

Manchester City came close to breaking that record with the signing of Josko Gvardiol in 2023. Now, the Red Devils might look to repeat that Maguire transfer.

After winning against Crystal Palace last Sunday, the Red Devils are now in third position in the Premier League table due to their superior goal difference over Aston Villa.

Now, there is a huge chance that Michael Carrick might stay as the permanent manager next summer because he has yet to lose a game as a Manchester United manager.

After Ole Gunnar Solskjaer departed the club in 2021, Michael Carrick took charge of the Red Devils for three games, where he remained unbeaten, winning two and drawing once.

Now, after taking charge in 2026, he is continuing his unbeaten run. In his second stint as an interim manager, he has been unbeaten in seven games, winning six and drawing once.

Thus, he is unbeaten in his United career as a manager so far. Now, if he stays as the permanent manager, then the former Manchester United midfielder will have a say on transfers for sure.

And, Carrick would be looking to sign a new defender because of Harry Maguire’s uncertain future at the club. According to The Telegraph, Manchester United are eyeing a move for Malick Thiaw.

However, signing the German international from Newcastle United will not be easy for the Red Devils. The Magpies will be asking for a fee similar to what they paid for Harry Maguire.

Thus, United might have to break their world record once again to sign his replacement. So, it will be interesting to see whether they will make an approach for Thiaw.
