It was a season to forget for Manchester United in 2024/25.
They finished 15th in the Premier League and a Europa League final loss could not paper over the cracks of a disastrous season.
With a total 42 points, this is by far their lowest points total of the Premier League era.
It was also their lowest amount since the 1977/78 season.
Only Bruno Fernandes and Amad came out of the season in positive light.
It was a particularly difficult season for United’s attack.
Only four teams in the Premier League scored less goals that Man United in 2024/25 (44).
Fernandes and Amad were the club’s joint top scorers in the league, each having eight.
Their combined total of 16 made up 36% of United’s total league goals for the season.
The pair also led the team in Premier League assists, and contributed towards 57% of the club’s total.
Striker Rasmus Højlund cost the club £72 million back in 2023 and a year later and they signed Joshua Zirkzee from Bayern Munich £36.5 million.
Despite a combined fee of £108.5 million, they could only muster up seven goals between them.
Matheus Cunha has arrived through the door to boost their attack but they are still looking for more.
Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo has been strongly linked, amid interest from Tottenham Hotspur.
It is another forward, one that has been in high demand this summer, that appears to be on his way to Old Trafford.
Manchester United open talks with in-demand forward
It has now been reported that United have opened talks with Eintracht Frankfurt over forward Hugo Ekitike.
The fee is said to be in the region of 100 million euros.
This would come as a blow to both Liverpool and Chelsea, both keen to bring in a striker this summer.
Ekitike, 22, has impressed since joining from Paris Saint-Germain in February 2024.
In all competitions, he netted 22 goals in 48 games.
This includes 15 in the Bundesliga.
With their aforementioned struggles up front, Man United appear to have found their next candidate to try and bring back the good times.
This is after a difficult past 11 seasons post Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement.
