Manchester United have heavily reshaped their midfield this summer following Casemiro’s departure from Old Trafford.
Michael Carrick’s side signed Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans before completing a £70 million deal for Carlos Baleba.
United also added Karl Darlow, Tynan Thompson and Kit Margetson while several fringe players departed during the window.
However, their Premier League campaign started disastrously with a 2-0 defeat against newly promoted Hull City.
United dominated possession and registered 20 shots, but Semi Ajayi and Nobel Mendy punished their defensive weaknesses.
Santos and Tielemans both started but failed to transform the game before Carrick substituted them during the second half.
As a result, United entered the final days of the window still looking to strengthen several areas.
A new left-back remains particularly important, although Carrick could surprisingly add another midfielder despite already making three additions.
According to Cadena SER (via Defensa Central), Manchester United are preparing bids for Barcelona left-back Alejandro Balde and Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga.
United reportedly plan a €30 million (£27 million) offer for Balde and another €50 million (£43 million) bid for Camavinga.
The club have already contacted Balde’s agent Jorge Mendes to explore a possible transfer before the window closes.
The 22-year-old had previously shown reluctance to leave Barcelona, but recent developments have reportedly changed his position.
Meanwhile, Camavinga has struggled to secure a consistent starting role at Real Madrid.
United’s interest comes despite their significant midfield investment in Santos, Tielemans and Baleba this summer.
However, Baleba is currently injured, while the Hull defeat exposed problems with United’s new-look midfield.
A move for Balde would directly address Carrick’s need for another left-back before the deadline.
United must now decide whether completing both deals represents the best use of their remaining transfer budget.
