Manchester United will be in the market for a midfielder in January. In the summer, they wanted to sign a midfielder. Yet, they could not sign one before the window closed.
Now, the Red Devils are seeing a concerning drop in form from a player they targeted last summer. They were ready to go big on the midfielder.
Ruben Amorim was adamant to bring him in as his new midfielder during the summer. Yet, United failed to complete the signing as the player’s club shut the door.
United’s plan was to revisit their top target next year. Amorim had one name in particular in his list.
However, according to the Mirror, that plan might now be in doubt. Carlos Baleba caught Manchester United’s attention this summer.
But the Cameroonian has endured a difficult start to the season. His performances have been inconsistent, and his game time has started to shrink.
Last weekend summed up his struggles. Baleba was substituted at half-time for the third time this campaign, with his side trailing by a goal.
His manager later explained that a yellow card had forced his hand, calling the situation “very frustrating.”
Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler admitted the constant speculation surrounding his player has had an effect.
The young midfielder’s rise came quickly, and with it came transfer rumours that may have disrupted his focus.
This could be a warning for Manchester United. The club has spent heavily in recent years. But most of those players could not adapt to the Old Trafford pressure.
They cannot repeat the same mistake again. That is why Manchester United should reconsider their pursuit of Carlos Baleba.
If the Brighton midfielder fails to regain his form, Ruben Amorim should start looking at other midfield targets.
