Manchester United reignite interest in Norway star

The Norway international has firmly re-emerged as a serious candidate for Carrick’s midfield rebuild.

Transfer Update - Manchester United

Manchester United continue to reshape their midfield ahead of the new season. Michael Carrick wants additional quality and depth as the club prepares for a return to the Champions League.

The recruitment team has already made significant progress in the market. Ederson is closing in on a move from Atalanta and could become the first major signing of the summer.

However, United are not expected to stop there. The club wants at least one more midfielder and continues to assess several options across Europe.

A number of high-profile names have already been linked with Old Trafford. Sandro Tonali, Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton, Alex Scott and Mateus Fernandes all remain under consideration.

Carrick wants players capable of improving competition and strengthening the squad immediately. That search has now led United back towards a familiar target.

According to The Athletic, the club have reignited their interest in Fulham midfielder Sander Berge. United monitored the Norway international closely before his move from Burnley to Fulham in 2024.

His performances since arriving at Craven Cottage have only strengthened his reputation.

The 27-year-old enjoyed another impressive campaign and established himself as one of Fulham’s most important players.

The London club, however, remain in a comfortable position. They do not need to sell and would reportedly demand more than the £25 million they paid for the midfielder.

The Red Devils have been scouting expensive midfielders so far. However, Sander Berge could be a cost-effective option for them.

Also, Manchester United can offer him first-team football from the beginning because Casemiro left the club at the end of last season.

For now, United continue to evaluate their options. However, the Norway international has firmly re-emerged as a serious candidate for Carrick’s midfield rebuild.
