Manchester United have made a strong start under Michael Carrick. They have decimated Manchester City in Carrick’s first game in charge.
It was by far United’s best performance this season. Now, the board believe they can secure a Champions League spot with Michael Carrick at the helm.
That is why they are looking to back him in January. Now, it was clear that if Ruben Amorim was still in charge, they wouldn’t have backed him.
The reason was that the board lost faith in the Portuguese. Also, Jason Wilcox, the Director of Football for Manchester United, fell out with Amorim.
But with Carrick, the board might want to back him. That is why they are already in talks with Ruben Neves. United want to solve their midfield problems.
That is why signing a midfielder will be at the top of their list. And Ruben Neves is one of the realistic targets for United in January.
Other names like Carlos Baleba, Elliot Anderson, or Adam Wharton will be available in the summer. But there is another Premier League midfielder that United might want to sign.
According to CaughtOffside, the Red Devils are eyeing a move for Joao Gomes from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
However, Manchester United are not the only club looking to make a move for the player. Italian giants Napoli are also in this race.
Also, Crystal Palace are monitoring the situation. So, it will be interesting to see whether United make a move for the player or not.
🚨 Manchester United are ready to challenge Napoli and Atlético Madrid for Wolves midfielder João Gomes as they prepare for life without Casemiro.
Napoli have broadly agreed personal terms with the Brazilian, but no fee agreement has been reached with Wolves yet.
