After sacking Ruben Amorim, it looked like Manchester United would keep things quiet in terms of adding new names to their squad.
However, things are looking exactly the opposite. The Red Devils are eyeing moves for midfielders. But their new permanent head coach will decide their transfer strategy.
Manchester United will appoint their new permanent head coach next summer. Before that, they look for a caretaker manager to take them through the current season.
Darren Fletcher has been the interim manager for their last two games. However, it seems either Michael Carrick or Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will become the caretaker manager.
Now, there are reports that, in between all the turbulence at the club, the Red Devils are still pursuing a deal for a young striker this January.
However, Transfer News Live already reported that Arsenal were close to signing the striker. But now, it looks like United are looking to hijack that deal.
According to The Sun, Manchester United have now joined Arsenal in monitoring the situation of Igor Tyjon closely.
Still only 17, Tyjon has already featured regularly for England at the youth level and has been around Blackburn’s senior setup far earlier than expected.
Tyjon made his professional debut back in September 2024, coming off the bench in a Championship win, and later picked up further senior minutes during the campaign.
Meanwhile, Arsenal have seen multiple approaches knocked back previously, but remain keen as the contract situation develops.
Tyjon has so far declined the opportunity to sign a first professional deal at Ewood Park. His current scholarship terms are set to expire at the end of the season.
So, any club looking to sign him would only need to pay compensation rather than a full transfer fee. Also, Blackburn boss Valerien Ismael has already acknowledged that a departure is possible.
With Arsenal and Manchester United both alert, this is shaping up to be a quiet but significant tussle for one of England’s brightest young attacking prospects.
