Manchester United set Marcus Rashford transfer deadline for Barcelona

Rashford could return to England following the World Cup this summer.

Marcus Rashford’s long-term future remains unclear despite enjoying an impressive loan spell in Spain last season.

The England international helped Barcelona retain the La Liga title and reach the Champions League quarter-finals after producing strong performances throughout the campaign.

Rashford scored 14 goals and registered 14 assists in 49 appearances across all competitions during his spell at Camp Nou.

His performances convinced many supporters that Barcelona would eventually move quickly to complete a permanent transfer this summer.

However, the situation has now become increasingly complicated.

Barcelona recently signed Anthony Gordon from Newcastle in a deal worth around £70 million and continue pursuing Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez.

The club already possess several attacking options including Raphinha, Ferran Torres and Lamine Yamal. That situation has now created uncertainty around Rashford’s future at the Catalan club.

According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United have rejected Barcelona’s £13 million offer to sign Marcus Rashford permanently.

The report states Barcelona’s proposal fell well below the £26 million option included in the original agreement.

Manchester United reportedly now want Barcelona to either improve their offer or request another loan deal before June 15.

Otherwise, Rashford could return to England following the World Cup this summer.

Despite that possibility, the report claims Rashford still does not appear part of Michael Carrick’s long-term plans at Old Trafford.

Several Premier League clubs continue monitoring the situation closely.

Arsenal, Chelsea, Newcastle United and Aston Villa have all reportedly shown interest in the England international ahead of the transfer window.

Rashford may also need to lower his current £315,000-per-week wages if he wants to secure a permanent move away from Manchester United.

For now, Barcelona still have time to decide whether they want to continue pursuing the forward this summer.
