Manchester United continue to monitor attacking options as uncertainty remains over Marcus Rashford’s future at Old Trafford.
The England international has returned from his loan spell at Barcelona, but his long-term future remains unresolved.
That has forced the club to assess potential alternatives in the market before the new season begins.
One player who has attracted serious interest is unlikely to remain in the Championship following West Ham United’s relegation. But, AS Roma have now enter the race for him.
According to Sky Sport Italia, AS Roma are now ready to challenge Manchester United for the signing of Crysencio Summerville.
The attacker was one of the few bright spots in a disappointing campaign for the Hammers. He registered five goals and two assists in 31 Premier League appearances despite the club’s struggles.
The winger then carried that momentum into the World Cup with the Netherlands. Two goals and two assists in four appearances established him as one of the revelations of the tournament.
The report claims that the Serie A side are preparing an offer worth €45m, which is around £38m.
Summerville’s representatives have already travelled to Italy to hold discussions with the Roman club.
However, the Dutch international is not expected to make any immediate decision after remaining on holiday until Thursday.
Roma are keen to strengthen their attacking options and are prepared to move quickly in the market.
Meanwhile, Manchester United will only make a formal approach if Rashford leaves the club this summer.
Michael Carrick is still assessing whether the England international has a future in his plans. That uncertainty could hand Roma a significant advantage in the race for the West Ham winger.
With interest continuing to grow across Europe, the battle for Summerville’s signature may only just be beginning.
