One of the biggest issues Manchester United have had in recent years is offloading their deadwood.
Owing to just how poor United’s recruitment has been over the last decade, they are often left with unwanted players on big wages.
They still have Jadon Sancho burning a 350k a week hole.
That said, in the last day or so it has been reported that Alejandro Garnacho is set to join Chelsea.
Now, it looks like they are set to offload another player with no future at the club.
According to Ben Jacobs, United and Real Betis have agreed a £25m deal for the Brazilian with a 50% sell on clause.
It is now up to Antony to agree personal terms with the Spanish side.
Given his largely successful loan in the South of Spain last season, you’d think that may not be an issue.
However, as is often the case with United players – wages may be an issue, so let’s see.
Needless to say, it is quite the hit from the £82m or so they paid for him back in the summer of 2022.
Although United’s recruitment has been poor for a while, some of the signings under Erik ten Hag were just something else. In a bad way.
During his loan spell at Betis last season, Antony scored five goals – the same amount he had scored in two 1/2 years at United.
Which did nothing to disprove the suggestion that Old Trafford is a graveyard for footballers these days.
Ah well, best to count your losses and put the money towards a midfielder that can move.
Understand the package agreed is £25m with 50% sell-on clause. Antony must now finalise personal terms.🇧🇷 https://t.co/r9MZCh9rU4
