Manchester United are showing an interest in a Championship player who has impressed Michael Carrick in the past.
Since taking over the role of the interim manager at Old Trafford, Carrick rejuvenated hope in the Manchester United fan base.
Towards the end of last year, it seemed that the season was over for the Red Devils. They were struggling to close games.
Even after taking a lead in many of the past games, they failed to win those games and dropped multiple points from such positions.
However, there was something different about the Manchester United that played against Manchester City last weekend.
They were able to get a clean sheet against perhaps one of the most lethal attacks in the Premier League.
Now, United are looking ahead, and their focus has turned to reshaping their midfield. And, they have set their sights on a midfielder playing in the Championship.
Manchester United have multiple midfielders on their list. In fact, they are looking to reshape their entire midfield.
There is uncertainty around the future of Casemiro, Manuel Ugarte, and Bruno Fernandes. Kobbie Mainoo has decided to stay at the club for the remainder of the season.
But still, the Red Devils need to invest in the midfield. And that is why they are eyeing a move for Hayden Hackney.
According to CaughtOffside, the Middlesbrough midfielder impressed Michael Carrick during his managerial reign. So, he would love to bring Hackney to Old Trafford.
Previously, Tottenham Hotspur showed interest in signing the midfielder. However, after signing Conor Gallagher, they will not be making a move for Hayden Hackney.
So, United will have a clear route to signing the player. However, Middlesbrough are in contention to return to the Premier League.
Thus, Manchester United might have to convince Middlesbrough in letting the player join them in the middle of the season.
